When Philadelphia science writer Keihla Benton joins an archeological team at Machu Picchu, she learns ancient prophecies about 2012 have special meaning for her. As Zero Time nears, only she can save two worlds from the powers of Darkness. But first she must unlock the secrets of Machu Picchu and her own past.

Zero Time Zero Time Chronicles Volume 1 T W Fendley 9781492332237 Books

Zero Time is a fabulous mix of real Mayan and Incan cultural history with fictional "what-if" scenarios woven expertly throughout the tale.

The storyline follows mythical human-like people from another planet who travel through time and space to influence and rebuild their race among the Maya and Inca people. Problems in their DNA strain will not allow natural-born males, only cloned males. As their race is threatened with extinction from overpopulation of females, the main characters make critical decisions that will vastly alter the possibility of success among planet Earth's people.

I was afraid the continual jumping from past to present would become confusing, but it never did. Ms. Fendley tells a fascinating tale of historical and spiritual significance to the characters, all while staying true to many aspects of what we know of the actual Mayan culture. I enjoyed the archaeological excursion set in modern times and could "see" the great temple complexes, then how the time-travelers influenced Earth's history to find themselves catapulted into today's setting and the changes to the complexes they'd helped build in the past.

The race between past and present, good and evil, and success or failure kept me reading well into the night - always a good sign for me enjoying a well-thought-out novel. I can highly recommend this novel to those who enjoy figuring out a good puzzle, culture and history, and the clash of forces - and who will come out on top.

Zero Time Zero Time Chronicles Volume 1 T W Fendley 9781492332237 Books Reviews

I feel compelled to review this book, even though I haven't finished it yet!
I have been late back from lunch twice this week, because I couldn't stop reading.
Must admit, it took a page or two for my poor English-speaking brain to get past the Mexican words.
Doesn't matter. The stakes of the story's opening pages are so high, I was sucked in immediately.
I am loving this book!
The author puts a spin on the Aztec empire that is quite amazing! At times the author gets a little heavy with descriptions! All in all a fun read!
This cool Science Fiction tale blends doomsday and Meso-American and South American lore for a daring read. Having been a contract archaeologist and done several larger site digs in college, I had a certain nostalgia when Keihla joins the excavating team.

Fendley's no nonsense style and her fresh and imaginative take on the end of the world plot makes Zero Time a thrilling read.
Wow! Time travel, ancient American mythology, aliens, super powers - some of my favorite things to read about. I was totally caught up in the world of Omeyocan's people and the story of their quest for survival. The interweaving of the different storylines was very well-done. The blending of fact, fantasy, and philosophy made for an absorbing story with a lesson to be learned. Zero Time would make a great film!
I haven't been very interested in all the buzz about Mayan prophesies and 2012 doomsday forecasts. I have, however, been a big fan of ancient astronaut theories and stories. This book blends both ideas and comes up with something totally new and completely engaging. Moving between ancient and modern Peru, ancient Mexico and an alien planet, Zero Time was a terrific rollercoaster ride of a story. I also liked the philosophy and hopeful message it had. My only complaint I wanted more story. Fortunately, I've heard there's a sequel coming.
I really like the way she interweaves various esoteric traditions with anthropological/historical ideas to create what seemed to me to be like an "alternate history" story. Or since it's not all in the past, I guess it's not "alternate history" so much as "alternate reality." Or maybe it's closer to "real reality" than traditional academia would have us believe. Who knows? But it's really fun.
I wasn't supposed to like this book, because I'm not a fan of 2012-ism. But a friend told me about it in gushing terms, and before I knew what I was doing, I was 25% in on my and unable to stop reading. I hope a sequel is in the works, because I'd like to know more about the home life of the aliens-who-aren't on Pleiades, who open the story. And I'd like to see where Keihla goes next as well, home to her birth planet and what she finds there could be a basis for the sequel?

My favorite aspect of this book is the way the author shifts from long-shot to close-up, bringing cosmic issues home, making them a part of a daughter-father relationship, working the other parental relationship, daughter-mother, very hard at the same time, the reader not fully aware of it until the big clashes occur. And the sisters are there too, lots of them, and the mean brothers, it seems. This book, come to think of it, might be all about family, if you can imagine your family as the universe, or at least the peoples of two different solar systems.

Sentence-by-sentence, the work is beautifully wrought, carefully edited, and amazingly readable, considering the story's (necessary) complexity. Fendley is surely someone from whom we will see a lot more. I hope so!
